I'm not sure what the right answer is, but it is certainly relevant to the analysis that the top half of earners, on average, live nearly six years longer than the bottom half:<br />http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/07/more_on_raising_the_retirement.html<br /><br />That's almost six more years of benefits while at the same time only being taxed on a much smaller percentage of their income.
